Fame going crazy?

Or is it just me! I hit a couple of blue ships a few minutes ago and my fame increased 3 on each hit. Thought it was only supposed to go up one per attack

Let me explain how this works.

If you attack a pirate and fail, your fame goes up by 3.

If you attack a pirate and succeed, your fame goes up by 1.

I noticed that when another pirate attacks you and fails your fame does NOT go down. Shouldn't it go down even if the attacker failed?

If you attack a pirate and succeed, your fame goes up by 1 and the other pirates fame goes down by 1.

If you attack a pirate and fail, your fame goes up by 3 and the other pirates fame stays the same.

agreed, gives a bonus to higher defenses...

Yeah, ptr is right. Too many newbies attack me (it would be nice, but unfair). They would get slapped in the face AND help me.
