Are you trying to upload a forum avatar or a pirate rank avatar?

The file sizes for avatars need to be small. You might be trying to upload one that is too big.

Does it give you an error message at all?

Can you walk me through, step by step, what you do and what happens?

I had the same problem when I was trying to upload the avatar.

The picture wasn't too big but I resized it and converted it to gif and finally I could upload it.

"Ideal dimension: 80 pixels x 80 pixels.
(Larger Images will be resized)
Only JPEG and GIF file formats are allowed."

I haven't tried uploading a *.bmp file or bigger picture yet but did notice that text.
I was feeling rather stink last night after misreading what some colours meant in a chat window I hadn't tried before.
This post isn't to say it wasn't read or that it was misread but that can sometimes be the problem.

I've resized it--it should work for him on the forums now too.

Thanks for that, the main problem is computer stuff is hard to explain in chat or on the forums. Changing the size of the picture was the first thing but he doesn't know how to set it as his avatar on the forums. Having the picture hosted on the game site is much easier than explaining how to host it else where. All he needs now is to put that link as the URL of where the picture on the net. I'm happy to have another go at explaining it to him, but really I meant for you to resize it and edit his profile so it's there. You could PM him now he has a forum account if you want to confirm with him that I understand what he means. Thanks again, just not sure what more I can do at this point.

My turn, my avatar is in the game but I don't know what the URL is because it says set/unset/update your avatar with no actually address attached to it. What should I do now to get it?

Start by making it smaller otherwise it takes too much room on the server and could also slow things down. Next just go to ucp.php?i=profile&mode=avatar and enter "http://game.piratetheworld.com/avatars/Janny269.jpg" (Without the " marks.) in the box labeled "Link off-site". Then you should just be able to go to "submit" and it's done. If you don't know how to resize then I'm sure seacaptain would be happy to help.
Oh and it's a nice pic, looks like you have both had a long night.
