I couldn't find the other suggestion I was thinking of, so here is mine:

We should want to draw in new people with something a bit easier, such as a sandbox training ground (the shallow waters?) where people of a certain level can't go, and the newbie greens would be allowed to pick on each other freely. Then, once they are TOTALLY addicted like us, :-) they enter the open waters and at least have a chance at succeeding.

I've been thinking about this more, and it seems like such a great idea. lol :-)

Think of it..

1. The shallow waters would be a smaller map, which is great for new players who don't have a lot of radar and ship.

2. All the players there would have to have low stats (and thus low attack and defense) so it would be a more level playing field.

3. It would have a lot of dead ships (new accounts that sign up and then quit), which would mean a lot of ship sinking for new players, and thus the bonuses of ship sinking would not go entirely to the old hats.

4. The leaderboards could be adjusted to Open Water Ranks and Shallow Water Ranks, thus preventing the big boys from picking on new people too much.

The list goes on and on! :-D

I also really like this idea and will talk to Jan about it.

Yeah, the only down side to this is that if a new player joins and gets stronger, who says he is going to want to leave in the first place? When he can just sit there all day and take all the new players gold.

Maybe you could make it so they actually get KICKED OUT if they are too strong.

If we did do this, shallow waters would only be available to new players for a set amount of time, say 1 month or something.

Yeah but I would still think the person that has been playing for 3 weeks would murder the one who just signed up and discourage him.

I think if you CAN that you should base it off some stat, like overall attack or defense.

But if that's near impossible, the 1 month thing sounds good ;)

i agree with that since the new player rankings are for a month, i think that the open water and shallow water ranks would play directly into this, working out perfectly

I think it should be based off of stats... Time would work out too, but once you reach a certain level, you HAVE to leave.

Maybe not allowing shallow water players cashout would encourage them to leave on thier own

Another good idea. There could be small prizes and mini-hunts, but to experience the full game you have to, lol, "grow up", and leave the shallow waters to enter the open seas. :-)

No - they might not know what they are doing and think they are strong enough because they have all their stats at 2, and then they will leave and they will get slaughtered.

Then they can't go back in too...
