I think this should help the noobs and a lot of players..

I think that when you get hit successfully, your fame shouldn't ONLY go down by one, it should get cut in half...

This will also help those that get teamed up on because you won't see all your gold get taken away so quickly

Also, when a new guy leaves fame on his ship, he wont come back the next day and see ALL his gold is gone and then he will be gone

ANy thoughts?

Yea im liking this idea too. Its seems only fair since your gold gets cut in half that your fame should as well. I have spoken to many newbs who are gettin frustrated at being group attacked. Several attacks within minutes or even seconds and poof. there gold is gone and they still have a load of fame.

I think strykers idea would greatly increase the chances of keeping newbs. Say a newbie accumulated 20k and has 53 fame. Then along come larry and spots for ptrdanno which happens allllll the time. This newb gets hit by danno.. poof down to 10 k, then larry hits them.. poof down to5k and still has 51 one fame the random other pirate that comes along and hits them for another 2500. Now this noob is left with 2500 and 50 fame still. Now i dunno how many newbs can easily accumultae more than 20 or 30k in one night but losing all that so fast im sure plays a role in many just scratching this game.


Stryker... i concur, this is a brilliant idea for all.

very good idea striker

another thing that could help newbies would be a "fame limiter" system that could work like this.

newbie just starting game max he could get is 10 fame no matter how many towns and pirates he attacks . the limiter goes up by 2 fame for every navigation and hull upgrade the pirate earns. with a proper strategy a pirate could build up a decent boat and radar and attack before working on attack. when he reaches a total defense of 20 then he would join the rest of us.

couple of other areas i think that is making newbs quit are

1. towns, villagers are just way too angry!

2. the economy system is also killing off newbies, since they must farm a lot to gain strength safely having islands dry out of gold after 3 straight days of visits is discouraging many of them. they then need to build bigger maps who end up drying out of gold too creating more frustration because they earn less and pirates keep taking 10-20% of their gold when they are sleeping.

many of these new features were meant to stop farming but all the big dawgs primarily hunt and fish for their gold using maps only for resets.

there is just no way a site this good should have less than 600 members, can you imagine what it would be like to have 1000-5000 ships actively playing this game?

Good idea but a limit of 10 is ridicules. Come on 10, really is that all the fame you want to give a new player. I for one run up to 100 on a daily basis. I have learned that you had better spend the gold or be ready to lose some during the night. Keep looking for a fame reset. Do not wait to think about a fame rest until you are down to 50 moves left. You had better stop attacking towns and other ships. You have to be smarter than that.

P.S. I do not think I have been playing a month yet.

If I were to implement something like this, I think the fame limit would increase over time... So something like for the first week you have a fame limit of X, second week 2X, then 5X, then full.

For example, week 1 would be max 10. Week 2, max 20. Week 3, max 50. Week 4, unlimited fame potential.

It will make it a lot more gentle, but we really do want new players to advance quickly so they will be more likely to stick it out for the long run.

How about limiting the number of hits per week on newbies?
Its so hard to save enough gold for upgrades when almost everyone can hit you.
I am hit 100+ times per week. :(

luckily you can only hit a pirate 3x per week....

imagine how this game would be if there were 1000+ active pirates...you'd be gettin slapped left and right!

I have to say I really like this idea as it took me a few days to learn the importance of Fame management in addition to the fact that it is really necessary for new members to hit towns in order to build up cash fast enough to get their first few upgrades. I am still a new fish no doubt but a couple weeks of experience has me looking over my shoulder a little more effectively!

I'm not too sure about the weekly one advancing on max fame...

maybe a new player will only get to play a couple days a week for the beggining without being able to play, then will return and gain more fame without learning the full effect of fame...

maybe make it relate with your upgrades?
