anyone got any pointers for someone just starting out?

lol ok! is there anything I should focus on upgrading more so than others?

bring up your boat and hull and cannons and radar acrooss the board in equal grades untill you find which you value towards your stratogy for the game by the time your at 3's you should know enough and be having plenty of fun with your fellow pirates. good luck and have fun.

the best advice I could give you would be to go into the chat room and make some friends. The more friends you have the better and more fun you will have in this game. It can be a game of great loyalties. I have met some of the nicest people here who have my undivided loyalties. Also read the forums every day, just in case something of great importance is posted, that way you get heads up first. And post all your questions, since you learn fast that way . Remember alliances are important here. I am not good at passing on co-ordinates, but if I have high fame, I would much rather a friend get my gold than Popcan, larryx or ptrdanno......lol! Just kidding,you guys! Seriously, good luck and don't let the gold grabbers upset you and don't take the game too seriously! Keep your eyes open for the pearls, there are still some great prizes left, inspite of the fact that I got the laptop....lol!

how often are these pearls put into the game?

they are pretty much always there...

it just depends on whether the timing is right for you to find one

when I started out,I searched islands and lagoons until I have enough gold and upgrade quickly.Focus on cannons and hulls and boat.you can attack a couple of towns if you want to,quickly get lots of gold;then magically a fame reset comes in searching an island.

My advice is hide......from ME!!!!!
