Dear Customer,
On October 31st, 2007, at approximately 16:50 PST, our main POP which
feeds all our transit and peering links at the One Wilshire Building
(
http://www.onewilshire.com) had a power outage on the 8th floor. We have
diverse power to the facility but unfortunately the entire floor lost power,
leading to a complete loss of power to all our networking equipment.
Power was restored at approximately 17:15 PST and all services resumed
normal operation.
However, power went out again at 18:10 PST and returned at 18:40 PST.
Again, we were informed by One Wilshire that their equipment had
failed.
The One Wilshire Building is one of the West Coast's most prominent
network interconnect buildings. It boasts an array of well-known clients
and services millions of end users. They informed us of the issue as
soon as it occurred and assured us power would resume shortly.
No servers were impacted in this loss of power. Our servers are
located at a data center facility 50 miles away in a high class data center
facility which has not lost power in the past 7 years of operation.
Only our networking equipment lost power.
We will diversify our network topology by activating a second point of
presence in the down town Los Angeles area. This will prevent any
similar future occurrences. We will have this completed immediately.
